I think Southwest seat selection is first come first serve. you can choose your seat when boarding.

I like flying Southwest, free seats and bags! Well not exactly free but all-inclusive with ticket price.
Yes, Southwest allows passengers to pick their own seats. The trick is to check in early to get a good seat.
Each boarding group will choose their seat as they board the plane, they are not preselected. So if you are in group A you have a better chance at getting a window seat over group C.
